Your Better Retirement: Wellbeing, Purpose & Connection After Work.
Helping you build a retirement that’s active, meaningful, and good for your mind and body.
Why does this matter?
I’ll keep this fairly simple at this stage, but hopefully, over time, as you read my content and (hopefully) listen to my podcasts, you will start to understand more why I am doing what I am doing. Put succinctly, I believe that our mental and emotional health are vital factors to a ‘happy’ life. And from my own experiences of reading content on the web, and listening to different podcasts, it feels to me that those entering retirement are a forgotten group of people when it comes to mental wellbeing. I’m not saying there are no discussions about this – there are some – but in my mind, there is not enough, and my desire is to make my own small difference to this discussion.
Creating a website dedicated to why retirement matters, in my mind, is a powerful way to spark awareness and perhaps challenge some misconceptions. Retirement (if we fully give up the work juggernaut) is the end of one chapter (and by gum, what a long one it was), moving into the beginning of something amazingly new. A big part of this is how we approach it.
This is what I will discuss an awful lot over the years ahead. My ultimate dream for this website is to delve into the research, understand from a scientific perspective what makes a good retirement, and look to see what we can bring into our lives in this life phase to make it a happy one. What happiness is, is of course debatable, but maybe that is a conversation for another day. But away from the research, we will also look at real-life examples of those in the throes of retirement, those who can share with us the challenges they have faced, what has worked, and what has not worked, so we can all learn from those who have gone before us.

We will discuss big, big topics here, such as purpose, identity, social connections and more. These may be ideas you have thought about in the past, are thinking about now, or have never thought about before. Either way, it doesn’t matter. I believe these ideas are important aspects of our lives, so let’s dig deep, have some conversations about them, but also have some fun along the way. It’s good to spend time looking at how we can improve our approaches to life, but we also need to strike a balance on how we attack this. Let’s learn, try to make better what might not be working so well for us, but have some fun along the way. That’s the goal here.
In today’s digital age, people turn to the internet for answers. By creating a website that demystifies retirement and makes it feel like an empowering next phase of life, it can hopefully help others take control of their future. We’re all in this together. We will be looking at smarter choices as we say a fond (or it may not be so fond) farewell to our working life, whilst we discover what might make us fulfilled as we have these blank canvases of days ahead. We will look to live our retirement era with full intention, putting us in control of how our days, weeks and months materialise. Better this, I think, than looking back years ahead and wondering ‘well, what the heck happened there then?!’
Geez, this is going to be fun! Let’s work together, having amazing, helpful, empowering conversations, and let’s ensure that this wonderful segment of life (you know, the one you have been waiting for since you started school) turns out exactly the way you wanted it. I look forward to the time spent with you all.

So what can you expect whilst you are here?
My blog
The one, single aim of Your Better Retirement is to provide content and instigate conversations that will help us all lead a happy and fulfilling retirement. Everyone approaches life differently, but what I believe universally applies to us all is that we want to live the best life possible. These articles will give you suggestions on how to go about achieving this.
Podcast
To accompany the blog articles, I also host a weekly podcast, uploaded each Sunday, which commenced in June 2026. This content also covers wellbeing in retirement, but also beefs this out, shall we say, with wider wellness content. Some of the topics we cover for retirement fit snuggly into other areas of life, so here we will delve a little bit wider.
Let’s get walking!
Okay, let’s get serious now! Exercise for me? Nah, never really been a fan. No gym, no running, no nothing really. I’ll hold my hands up – that’s not ideal. But what I have immersed myself in over the past five or so years is walking/taking daily steps. I love it – it’s the best thing ever. Read/listen to my content as to why I believe moving one leg in front ot the other on a repeated basis (yeah, I know, walking!) is one of the best activities we can undertake, both from a physical and mental health perspective. We’ve got science on our side here.

Choice 2 – Podcast

Choice 3 – Getting Those Steps In

Learn why a daily routine of getting your steps in, whether that be in the beautiful outside world that we are blessed with, or inside on a walking pad, will bring you so many physical and mental health benefits. From improving heart health, to reducing (if you want) weight, or indeed maintaining weight, through to boosting your mood, reducing stress or providing a sense of purpose. The benefits are endless. Well, just about endless! Let’s delve into the science of why counting our steps really is good for us. And let’s not forget, it doesn’t cost a penny (unless you get a walking pad, of course). As Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson sang to us back in the day, “The Best Things in Life Are Free”. Hell yeah.

All it leaves me to say is thank you so much for visiting my website. My goal is simple – it really is. My vision is to offer my own support in helping those who have left the full-time working treadmill to lead the most fulfilling and happiest next phase of their lives as they can. You will have a lot of time on your hands. How you use that (I believe) will determine how you feel throughout those post-work years. I will play my part in keeping that discussion alive, and hopefully offering inspiration along the way for you to use those 16 or so awake hours we have every day in the most effective way possible. Let’s work together, become our own little community, and help each other make the most of what could be the most rewarding part of our lives. Let’s make it happen.
